Volunteer recruitment and orientation.

Interested in working with high school students and/or English language learners?  Come learn about three opportunities in the Fargo-Moorhead area.  Pre-registration not required but appreciated.

1. Giving + Learning facilitates in-home tutoring and weekend drop-in tutoring, Saturday and Sunday 4-6 pm at The WE Center (15-21st Street South Fargo).  Giving + Learning matches volunteers with New Americans who might need help with English, studying for the citizenship exam, or studying for their driver’s permit test.
2. The Fargo Adult Learning Center benefits from having volunteers who can support a classroom or lead a small break-out group.
3. AIP Mentoring seeks mentors who can work with New American students at South High and Davies High (both in Fargo) on a broad range of home work topics, not just English.

Weekend Giving + Learning

Weekend Giving + Learning

Every Saturday and Sunday (unless noted), Giving + Learning hosts a drop in tutoring session at The WE Center.  These are one-on-one tutoring sessions; learners can be working on

  • reading and writing in English
  • citizenship test preparation
  • driver’s license test preparation
  • GED test preparation
  • cover letters and resumes

or just about any educational task (we can even help with math!). K-12 and adult learners are welcome.  We do not, unfortunately, provide daycare.

Volunteers and learners are welcome on a drop-in basis.  No experience needed for volunteers. Materials provided; experienced program directors can provide guidance.
